Induced After Death Communication
What Is IADC therapy?
Induced After-Death Communication (IADC) is a brief, evidence-informed therapy developed by Dr. Allan Botkin, designed to support individuals who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Rooted in a modified form of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), IADC is a focused, accelerated grief therapy that aims to reduce the intense emotional pain and deep sadness that can accompany loss.
While IADC does not “solve” or erase grief, it can offer powerful relief from some of the emotional suffering when we feel especially stuck or unrelenting. Many people who receive IADC report a spontaneous, vivid experience of connection with their deceased loved one—described not as imagination, but as a felt sense of presence, a message, a memory, or a sensory encounter. These experiences often bring profound comfort, clarity, and peace.
Unlike models of grief that frame healing as “letting go” or “moving on,” IADC supports a process of integration—making space for the ongoing bond you share with the person who died. Grief changes over time, but love doesn’t disappear. This therapy offers a gentle, affirming path to stay connected while also making room to live, feel, and relate more fully in the present.

FAQs
-
Format: IADC is typically offered in two intensive sessions over two consecutive days.
Approach: The first phase of the work helps reduce unresolved sadness and emotional pain. Once a state of greater peace is reached, the therapist supports the client in accessing a receptive state that may lead to a perception of connection with the deceased.
Experience: This sense of connection—whether interpreted spiritually, psychologically, or neurobiologically—often leads to:
A profound decrease in grief-related sadness
Reassurance of the loved one’s wellbeing
Resolution of unfinished emotional business
A transformation in feelings of separation
Belief systems are not a requirement for this therapy. Whether you view the experience as spiritual, neurological, symbolic, or emotional, the healing benefit is the same.

ADCs are spontaneous experiences in which people sense the presence of someone who has died. These are surprisingly common:
Up to 40% of adults report ADCs in their lifetime (without any type of therapy)
70–80% of widows have reported ADC experiences
14% of adults report seeing or hearing the deceased directly
(Rees, 2001; Dastson & Marwit, 1997; Silverman & Worden, 1993)
IADC Therapy is designed to induce the same natural psychological conditions under which spontaneous ADCs are most likely to occur—allowing clients to experience emotional resolution and often, a deep reconnection with their loved one.

Yes. Several studies show positive outcomes for IADC Therapy:
Dr. Jan Holden at the University of North Texas found IADC more effective than conventional grief treatment.
Dr. Claudio Lalla conducted studies supporting IADC's benefits for complicated grief and validated an IADC-specific grief questionnaire.
Dr. Tom Nehmy's research has been approved at the University of Adelaide.
These studies suggest that IADC can be a powerful and effective short-term approach for grief healing.

No, you do not need to be spiritual or religious to benefit from IADC therapy. While some people interpret their IADC experiences through a spiritual lens, the therapy itself does not require any specific belief system. The healing impact of IADC comes from the emotional and psychological resolution it offers—not from how the experience is explained. Whether you view the connection as symbolic, neurological, emotional, or spiritual, clients from a wide range of backgrounds consistently report feeling more at peace, less burdened by grief, and more connected to their loved one after IADC.
